Cookie Policy

This page explains the cookies and similar storage technologies we use on stayreadysandiego.com, why we use them, and how to control them. For the broader picture, see our Privacy Policy.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device so it can recognize your browser on later visits. Some cookies are necessary for the site to function; others measure how the site is used, or (eventually) measure advertising performance. We also use localStorage, which works similarly.

How we group cookies

What happens before you accept

Before you make a choice in the cookie banner, this site does not load any third-party tracking resources. The Google Analytics script (gtag.js) is not fetched from googletagmanager.com, and no analytics or advertising cookies are set. The only page resources are this site's own HTML, CSS, fonts, and images, all served from stayreadysandiego.com. Fonts are self-hosted, not loaded from Google. The only browser-stored item is your eventual banner choice itself, kept in localStorage.

Cookies and storage we currently use

NameSet byCategoryPurposeExpires
sr_consent Stay Ready (localStorage) Strictly necessary Remembers your cookie-banner choice so we don't ask every visit Until you clear it
_ga Google Analytics Analytics Distinguishes unique users for traffic measurement 2 years (only set if consented)
_ga_JD8X1WMLFG Google Analytics Analytics Persists session state for our GA4 property 2 years (only set if consented)

Cookies we may add when we run ads

We are not currently running paid ads. When we do, these third-party cookies may be added to the Advertising category and will be gated by your consent choice via Google Consent Mode v2:

If your current preference is "Reject Non-Essential," none of these will be loaded — even after we start advertising.

How to control cookies

On this site

In your browser

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may break parts of this and other websites. Browser instructions:

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Many browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. Industry standards for what this signal means are not settled, so we treat consent through our banner as the authoritative choice for those browsers.

The Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal is different — we honor it automatically. If your browser sends GPC, this site opts you out on arrival: the consent banner never asks, analytics never loads, and no analytics or advertising cookies are set. Your opt-out is recorded in your browser's localStorage.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when we add or remove cookies. Material changes will update the effective date at the top.
